Healthcare Knuggets

Hey there, healthcare enthusiasts! I have some exciting news to share with you. First off, there’s a push for more diversity in clinical trials in the Asia-Pacific region to ensure more effective treatment. And on the topic of eye care, the ophthalmology devices market is expected to grow significantly due to the trend towards medical tourism for low-cost procedures. Plus, Australia has formed a new task force to improve maternity services, and India’s Kauvery Hospital has opened a new clinic at Chennai Airport for immediate medical care for travellers.

But that’s not all – Singapore is investing $107m for infrastructure upgrades at Active Ageing Centres to support over 100 existing centres, and India’s coronary stent market is expected to grow at a 4% CAGR until 2033. Additionally, the medical tricorder market is set to hit $6.3b by 2032, with chronic diseases being a major factor contributing to this growth.

In other news, a STAT investigation has revealed how UnitedHealth pressured doctors to diagnose more Medicare patients, shedding light on the corporate strategy to generate more revenue from the federal government. On a more positive note, pharmaceutical company Sanofi is donating $18 million to three historically Black medical schools to support work increasing diversity in clinical trials.

Lastly, Walgreens is revamping its retail business to regain customer traffic, and 51% of independent pharmacies are considering not stocking the first 10 drugs subject to Medicare price negotiations due to concerns about absorbing upfront costs.

Exciting things are happening in the healthcare industry, and I can’t wait to see the positive impact these developments will have. Stay tuned for more updates in the next newsletter!
