Today’s news includes a discussion about the missing conversation around immigration in Silicon Valley. Despite the industry’s reliance on immigrants, Trump supporters in tech have largely avoided discussing immigration, despite Trump’s history of hostility towards immigration. Additionally, the Department of Homeland Security has rolled out additional guidance for the International Entrepreneur Rule, a program that provides support for non-U.S. entrepreneurs to establish and build their startups in the U.S. The program allows foreign entrepreneurs to work on their company for 2½ years, with the option to apply for an additional 2½ years, and spouses of these entrepreneurs can also apply for work authorization. However, the program has only approved 26 cases out of 94 applications since its implementation in 2021, highlighting the challenges faced by foreign-born founders in the tech industry.
